On Sunday 14th April 2019 Forest of Dean Branch Standard Bearers and Members of the RGBW Association gathered at Bathurst Park, Lydney to lay a wreath at our Korean Oak Tree. This Remembrance Ceremony is held annually and is also attended by the Major of Lydney, Standard Bearers and Members of the Lydney branch of the Royal British Legion.
Before the laying of wreaths Maj (Retd) Leslie Ramsden MBE gave a brief account of the background to the Imjin Battle in Korea in which members of the 1st Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment fought. He also mentioned that the term ‘The Glorious Glosters’ now came into general usage, especially in the United States where news of the Glosters stand appeared on the front page of many newspapers. Unfortunately Roy Mills, our Korean Veteran, was unable to attend this year’s Ceremony due to ill health. Roy had been a prisoner of war in Korea.
