The village of Lidgate, Suffolk, is holding a Dedication Ceremony on Sunday 3rd November 2019 to add three World War II names to their War Memorial.
One of the three is 14643865 Pte Ivan Terence Hazel, Royal Berkshire Regiment, who died on 19th January 1944 aged 18 and is buried in Colchester. Ivan Terence Hazel would have been a soldier under training with 17th Infantry Training centre, which was a combined unit serving the Royal Sussex Regiment and the Royal Berkshire Regiment. The reason why 17th Training Centre was located in Colchester was due to the expansion of the Army, causing over-spill in Brock Barracks.
One of the other two whose names will be added to the memorial is Lieutenant Richard Antony Dewing (son of Major General Dewing) of 1 Rifles Brigade who died on 29 May 1942 at the Battle of Gazela. Richard Dewing is buried in Libya.
The Royal Berkshire Regiment, responding to a request from Lidgate Parish, have arranged for Tony Skidmore, a former Royal Berkshire Regiment officer who lives in Bishops Stortford, to represent the Regiment and lay a wreath
